Around 3 months after the first jab was given in the UK, the NHS have succeeded the government's goal for vaccinations received and offered. 18 million people have now been vaccinated. Recent research has suggested that the Biotech-Pfizer vaccination is 94% effective at preventing Covid-19 and 92% effective at preventing serious infection - these findings were consistent across all age groups
Not only this, but some evidence has suggested that the Pfizer vaccine can curb transmission. The vaccine was 70% effective at preventing both symptomatic and asymptomatic infections 3 weeks after the jab. Susan Hopkins at Public Health England in London found this out when tracking the effectiveness of the vaccine in 23,000 healthcare workers. However, this study has not yet been peer reviewed.
Altogether, there has not been a huge deal of research surrounding the vaccine’s efficiency on new variants and its actual efficiency. Despite this, it is our only way out at the moment. If you have the opportunity to get the vaccine, take it.
